229 Deputy Brian Hayes asked the Minister for Education and Science the capacity that exists at third level for the expansion of the international student body; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8386/10]
Amharc ar fhreagraI have recently established a high level group on international education, as part of the new framework for the promotion, co-ordination and regulation of international education in Ireland. The Government has requested that the High Level Group develop an action plan for enhanced performance, which should address the full range of issues relevant to the recruitment of international students and other forms of internationalisation of education. Among the core issues that the Group will be examining includes the capacity of institutions to attract increased numbers of international students in a way which is consistent with other national policies and has regard to needs of Irish students. I expect that the Action Plan will be ready later this year.
