228 Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport the extent to which he or his Department provides funding to Iarnród Éireann for capital expenditure; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16696/10]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department provides capital funding directly to Iarnród Éireann for the Railway Safety Programme and rail projects outside the Greater Dublin Area such as Cork Suburban Rail and the Western Rail Corridor. In addition my Department provides Exchequer capital funding to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for public transport investment in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). It is a matter for the Authority itself to prioritise this funding including in respect of Iarnród Éireann's capital expenditure in the GDA.
