385 Deputy Brian Hayes asked the Minister for Social Protection if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 is entitled to supplementary welfare; if the person’s State pension will be affected by any private pension the person may have when the person turns 65 years in 2011; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraDue to staff action currently being taken in the HSE, I regret that I am unable to provide the information sought by the Deputy in relation to any entitlement under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme for the person in question.
The State pension (transition) payable from age 65 is not a means-tested payment. In order to qualify for state pension, a claimant must satisfy a number of qualifying conditions including meeting the contribution conditions. As this pension is insurance based it would not be affected by any supplementary pension.
