Sheehan asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will raise the amount of sea lettuce that can be removed from the beaches at Inchidoney and Courtmacsherry, County Cork, in order to allow a commercial operation (details supplied) to use the dried ulva as an ingredient for a newly developed fish feed by operating a €1.5 million drying and processing facility that would also create local employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There is currently no limit imposed by either my Department or the local authority on the removal of sea lettuce from the areas in question. I understand that the local authority has invited expressions of interest from parties for proposed solutions for the collection and disposal of the sea lettuce. The closing date for receipt of these submissions was 21 May 2010.
