237 Deputy Ruairí Quinn asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills if she is satisfied that the recruitment process for a position at a university (details supplied) was complied with in accordance with best practice; if she will ensure that the current recruitment process is restarted and that proper procedures are adhered to; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the Universities Act 1997 universities are autonomous statutory bodies and academically independent institutions. As provided for in the Act the recruitment and appointment of staff, including the determination of selection procedures, is the responsibility of the university's management authorities.
