262 Deputy Frank Feighan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the amount of funding spent in 2009 and 2010 by his Department on Irish language training for public servants; the number of persons that participated in Irish language training courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Details of expenditure by the Department of Foreign Affairs on Irish language training in 2009 and 2010 are set out in the following table, which also shows the number of officers that participated in the training.

My Department is currently finalising arrangements for the provision of Irish language classes for its staff at headquarters and abroad. These classes, at various competency levels, will be particularly aimed at staff who interact with members of the public on a regular basis.
