424 Deputy Denis Naughten asked the Minister for Social Protection his plans to amend the Civil Registration Act 2004; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [38516/10]
Amharc ar fhreagraA general review of the provisions of the Civil Registration Act 2004 is being carried out by An tArd-Chláraitheoir (Registrar General) who has statutory responsibility in relation to the administration of the Civil Registration Service. However, this cannot be concluded until a report from the Law Reform Commission which is expected to contain recommendations relevant to this, is available. It is understood that the report from the Commission will be available by the end of the year. As the Deputy is aware, there are a number of steps to be taken before any amending legislation might come before the Oireachtas and it is not possible to be definite as to timescales at this juncture.
