74 Deputy Martin Ferris asked the Minister for Justice and Equality his plans to enhance the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission’s powers in relation to the Special Branch; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11878/11]
Amharc ar fhreagraUnder the terms of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, the extensive powers and responsibilities of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission apply equally to all members of An Garda Síochána. This legislation is kept under review, and I am generally open to any views as to how it might be improved, but I see no reason, nor do I think it practical, to amend it so as to apply differing levels of oversight to different sections of the Garda Síochána.
