450 Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of vacancies currently at the District Court, Circuit Court and the High Court; his plans to fill these positions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15775/11]
Amharc ar fhreagraThere are four judicial vacancies at present; two in the High Court and two in the District Court. The current procedures are set out in the Courts and Court Officers Act, 1995. In accordance with the provisions of section 16(2) of that Act, I have requested the Judicial Appointments Advisory Board to furnish me with the names of those persons it considers suitable for the current vacancies together with the name of each person who has informed the Board of his/her wish to be considered for appointment.
Following receipt of the lists from the Board, the Government will nominate persons for appointment by the President. I should mention that I have asked my Department to examine the judicial appointment procedure and this review is currently in train.
