190 Deputy Brendan Griffin asked the Minister for Health if there will be a reorganisation of diabetes paediatric services in eight networks, one of which would serve between 470 and 500 children with diabetes in counties Cork and Kerry, in order that intensive therapies can be accessed locally; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe HSE National Clinical Programme for Diabetes — which includes the care of children and adolescents with diabetes — is established within the Clinical Strategy and Programmes Directorate. The Programme is supported by a multi-disciplinary team with representation from a number of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals, Podiatrists, GPs and the Diabetes Federation of Ireland.
The National Clinical Programme's key deliverables for 2011 are the implementation of Diabetes Retinopathy Screening and a multi-disciplinary Footcare package for patients with diabetes.
It is also considering care for children and adolescents with diabetes and resources for inclusion in the 2012 HSE Service Plan.
The programme is also collaborating with the Primary Care National Clinical Programme on integrated care and the newly established National Clinical Programme for Paediatrics.
