38 Deputy Sandra McLellan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht his plans to bring forward proposals arising from the feasibility group investigating the possible relocation of the Abbey Theatre to the GPO; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16483/11]
Amharc ar fhreagraFollowing consideration of the matter by the Government, it has been decided not to proceed with the re-location of the Abbey Theatre to the GPO complex. This decision has been taken after a thorough examination of the Feasibility Study prepared by my Department and the Office of Public Works on the matter. The Feasibility Study was published on 17th June on the website of my Department. This decision was taken on the basis of the very significant potential costs involved, as well as on grounds of technical complexity, historical appropriateness, planning, conservation and heritage issues. Other significant factors in the decision related to the tenure and relocation of exiting tenants of the GPO complex, including An Post.
