48 Deputy Michael Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food his engagement with the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation on the introduction of fair trade legislation and when he expects draft legislation to be produced. [17621/11]
Amharc ar fhreagraAs the Deputy is aware, the programme for Government contains a commitment to enact fair trade legislation which will ban a number of unfair trading practices in the retail sector. My colleague, the Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD has recently indicated to this House his intention to give effect to this commitment by including a specific enabling provision in legislation. As Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, I work closely with my Ministerial colleagues on delivery of the Programme for Government. The Government is committed to ensuring that Ireland continues to have vibrant agrifood and retail sectors and balance in the relationship between the players in the grocery goods sector is important to this.
