448 Deputy Simon Harris asked the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs if she will extend the remit of the Children’s Ombudsman to enable that office to examine the work of the National Council for Special Education; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24913/11]
Amharc ar fhreagraI am aware of the matter raised by the Deputy. The Office of the Ombudsman for Children has been in contact with the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. I am expecting further contact before the end of year from the Ombudsman's office in relation to their remit. While responsibility for the amendment of legislation in relation to the Ombudsman for Children rests with the Department of Children and Youth Affairs responsibility for the National Council for Special Education rests with the Department of Education and Skills.
