162 Deputy Terence Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government his views on a matter (details supplied) regarding the household charge; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2799/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Local Government (Charges) Act 2009 and the Local Government (Household Charge) Act 2011 provide the legislative basis for the charge on non-principal private residences (NPPR) and the household charge respectively. Under the Acts (section 9 and section 12 respectively) collection of the charge is placed under the care and management of the relevant local authority. It is open to an individual who may be experiencing hardship in meeting their payment obligations under the Acts to make contact with the relevant local authority in the first instance to establish if there is a basis for addressing the matter.
