512 Deputy Nicky McFadden asked the Minister for Justice and Equality his views on the work carried out by the Garda water unit in Athlone; and if he will confirm that the unit will remain in Athlone, County Westmeath. [3609/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraIn accordance with the provisions of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, it is a matter for the Garda Commissioner to determine the manner in which members of An Garda Síochána are deployed and located throughout the State. In that context, I am advised by the Garda authorities that the allocation of Garda personnel, including specialist units, is continually monitored and reviewed in the light of crime trends, policing strategies and other operational requirements to ensure that optimum use is made of Garda resources and that the best possible Garda service is provided to the public.
