Ceisteanna (565)

Dara Calleary

Ceist:

612 Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Health the reason the Health Service Executive commissioned a report to critically appraise a report on excise carried out by the Revenue Commissioners; the amount the HSE report cost; and, in view of the fact that there are inaccuracies about excise figures in the letter to him accompanying the report, his views on whether the HSE report and letter represent money and resources well spent on the taxpayers’ behalf. The Health Service Executive has a range of statutory functions related to tobacco control including undertaking, sponsoring or commissioning, or providing financial or other assistance for research aimed at identifying measures that when adopted, are likely to reduce the incidence of smoking or its effects. Accordingly, I have referred the matter to the HSE for direct reply.
