Ceisteanna (77)

Micheál Martin

Ceist:

117 Deputy Micheál Martin asked the Minister for Finance if the Revenue Commissioners will confirm that in so far as they have dealings with a person (details supplied) in County Kerry, they are of the highest probity and professional standing and that any inference to the contrary is completely without foundation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. This is a matter for the Revenue Commissioners. I am advised by Revenue that under its Customer Service Charter a presumption of honesty underpins all interaction with taxpayers (and by extension their representatives). Revenue does not and could not be expected to provide formal confirmation or assurance of the bona fides of any tax professional. The creation of such a document for any tax practitioner would be in contravention of the equitable treatment that Revenue is required to provide to all its customers and their intermediaries. The matter raised by the Deputy has previously been addressed fully by Revenue. Both the Offices of the Information Commissioner and Ombudsman have independently considered applications by the individual in question and issued decisions upholding Revenue's responses and actions.
