422 Deputy John McGuinness asked the Minister for Social Protection further to a previous parliamentary question the status of an appeal for domiciliary care allowance in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; if the appeal will be approved as a matter of urgency based on medical evidence submitted; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that the carer's allowance appeal, by the person concerned, was registered in that office on 15th February 2012. It is a statutory requirement of the appeals process that the relevant Departmental papers and comments by or on behalf of the Deciding Officer on the grounds of appeal be sought. When received, the appeal in question will be referred in due course to an Appeals Officer for consideration.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions on social welfare entitlements.

Amharc ar fhreagraThe person concerned was found eligible for Domiciliary Care Allowance by an Appeals Officer. She was notified on 15th December 2011 that her claim was awarded.
