78 Deputy Brendan Griffin asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if a member of staff will engage with locals in relation to an Office of Public Works site (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13019/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraSubstantial conservation works will begin, subject to Ministerial consent, at Ballymalis Castle in June 2012. The structure will be scaffolded to allow removal of inappropriate concrete repairs that had been carried out in the early 20th century. This will be a long term project and there will be no public access to the castle for the duration of the project. The issue of internal works to provide public access will be reviewed following completion of external conservation works. The Heritage Services of the Office of Public Works are happy to consider a written submission in relation to a viewing platform proposal.
