145 Deputy Sandra McLellan asked the Taoiseach the cost incurred by his Department, for 2012 overseas travel programme for St. Patrick’s Day, which saw him and eight Ministers heading abroad for the holiday; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17596/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe St. Patrick's Day period offers an unparalleled and unique global opportunity to showcase Ireland and to bring the message that Ireland is open for business to all our key global markets and to Ireland's many friends around the world. The importance of Ministerial visits during this period cannot be underestimated in terms of our economic recovery and delivery of foreign direct investment to Ireland. During my visit to the United States I met with President Obama, Vice President Biden, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and many political leaders. I addressed a number of high profile events including the Ireland Fund dinner in Washington, and including a joint EI/IDA business lunch.
The costs incurred by my Department to date in respect of the 2012 St. Patrick's Day overseas travel programme are detailed in the following table. The total costs of the visit have not yet been finalised. Invoices will be submitted in due course through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for reimbursement by my Department, and will include hotel costs; car hire; and other miscellaneous costs.
