379 Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Protection the extent to which the number of applicants in receipt of various social welfare payments has fluctuated in each of the past three years and to date in 2012, with particular reference to each category of payment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The information requested by the Deputy is contained in the tabular statement. The totals increased by over 40,000 in 2010 and again in 2011 compared to the previous year in both cases. The total at the end of April 2012 was virtually unchanged from the end of 2011.
