Ceisteanna (211)

Tom Fleming

Ceist:

211. Deputy Tom Fleming asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will arrange for the Office of Public Works to investigate and examine the need for the dredging of part of the Cordal River adjacent to Cordal GAA grounds, County Kerry, in view of the fact that the playing area is affected when the river floods; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Office of Public Works does not have any responsibility under the Arterial Drainage Act for the stretch of the Cordal River at the location in question. This Office is not in a position, therefore, to undertake the dredging works sought. Generally, the maintenance of rivers, which do not form part of an Arterial Drainage Scheme or a Drainage District, is a matter for the riparian landowners.
