175. Deputy Peter Mathews asked the Minister for Finance if the €1 billion unsecured bond redeemed by AIB in full on 2 October 2012 was funded by increasing ELA borrowing from the Central Bank of Ireland or if it was funded directly or indirectly, in whole or in part by reducing the bank's assests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. AIB has informed me that the Bank has not availed of ELA facilities since H1 2011. Therefore no drawings of ELA funding were required in respect of the €1bn senior unsecured bond repayment of 2 October 2012. The bond repayment was effected from the bank's holding of liquid assets.
