Deputy Nicky McFadden asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the current procedure used to notify asylum seekers of deportation orders; the amount of notice that is given to the person concerned; if information is provided to them in relation to an appeals process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraFollowing the signing of a Deportation Order a letter issues from my Department's Repatriation Section informing the person that a Deportation Order has been made in respect of them and that they must present themselves at the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) to make arrangements for their removal from the State. Seventeen days notice is allowed for the person to make arrangements.
I would urge anyone who is the subject of a Deportation Order to cooperate fully with the Garda National Immigration Bureau. I would also add that a person who is the subject of a Deportation Order is required in law to remove themselves from the State; the question of them being deported arises when they fail to leave the State.
