514. Deputy Marcella Corcoran Kennedy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the way his Department categorise a horticulture enterprise and in particular if horticulture is categorised as farming; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [44248/12]

Horticulture is regarded as a branch of agriculture.

Consequently, horticultural production comes within the responsibility of my Department and a practitioner of horticulture would be regarded by my Department as either a farmer or grower.
