36. Deputy Patrick Nulty asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade when the programme for Government commitment to discontinue the use of Shannon Airport by the United States military will be implemented; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [48507/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraNo commitment has been made in the Programme for Government to discontinue the use of Shannon Airport by the United States military. What the Programme states is that “we will enforce the prohibition on the use of Irish airspace, airports and related facilities for purposes not in line with international law”. Arrangements for the overflight and landing of US military aircraft at Shannon Airport have been continuously in place under successive Governments for over fifty years. There are no plans to change these arrangements, which are fully consistent with Ireland’s obligations under successive Resolutions of the UN Security Council.
