Ceisteanna (261)

Michael Healy-Rae

Ceist:

261. Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Finance in view of the fact that more than 6,000 pubs have closed since 2009, his plans to try and work with the Vintners' Association of Ireland to try and ensure that no more pubs close in view of the fact that for every pub that closes, employment is lost and a service to the local community is lost; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Office of the Revenue Commissioners have advised that 9,082 pub licences were issued in 2009 and 8,250 licences were issued in 2012 . I am aware of the difficulties being experienced by the industry at present. Both I and officials of my Department have engaged with representatives of the industry on various issues and will continue to do so.
