Ceisteanna (271)

Pearse Doherty

Ceist:

271. Deputy Pearse Doherty asked the Minister for Finance if capital gains tax is collated in such a way as to be able to determine the revenue that would be raised if capital gains tax was higher on vacant land that has benefited in value from rezoning-planning developments; and what the revenue would be if capital gains tax on those occasions was charged at 50%, 60%, 70% and 80%, respectively. I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that they do not have data on “vacant land”. I am further advised that the Central Statistics Office and the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government do not have data on undeveloped land which would enable a yield from a higher rate of CGT, as proposed, to be estimated.

Question No. 272 answered with Question No. 221.
