195. Deputy Robert Troy asked the Minister for Finance the amount Ireland pays annually in penalties for not complying with EU regulation to abolish vehicle registration tax; and the amount the Government receives from VRT each year. [37716/13]
Amharc ar fhreagraIreland does not pay any penalties in respect of EU regulation to abolish vehicle registration tax. The legislation in relation to vehicle registration tax is compatible with the provisions of the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.Vehicle registration tax is a feature of the tax system in 18 other Member States of the European Union.
The net VRT receipts in 2012 were €379 million.
