169. Deputy Stephen S. Donnelly asked the Minister for Education and Skills further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 1695, 1696 and 1697 of 18 September 2013 regarding the school transport scheme, the reason for the statement that the scheme operates on a cost recovery basis and Bus Éireann does not make a profit in the scheme in any commercial sense; if he is implying that Bus Éireann makes non-commercial profits of some kind on the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The arrangements under which the school transport scheme operates are set out in a document of 1975 which provides the basis for payment to Bus Éireann. Bus Éireann has confirmed that it does not make a profit from the school transport scheme.
