356. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Social Protection if the General Register Office retains records of the number of persons attending its research facility; and if the GRO compiles statistics on the number of persons attending the facility to trace their family records due to their having been adopted or knowing a person who has been adopted. The General Register Office operates a dedicated genealogy research room in Dublin with capacity for 40 people. Members of the public can search indexes of births, deaths and marriages and obtain photocopies of entries they require. The following table gives a summary of research activity for the years 2008-2012.
