Deputy Barry Cowen asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of times his Department received requests by Philanthropy Ireland to meet in 2011, 2012 and 2013; the number of times his Department met with Philanthropy Ireland in those years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraI wish to advise the Deputy that my Department is represented on the Forum on Philanthropy and Fund-raising and officials from my Department attend the regular meetings of the Forum in this capacity. Philanthropy Ireland is also represented on this Forum.
I can further advise the Deputy that officials from my Department met with representatives of Philanthropy Ireland on three occasions in 2012 and on one occasion in 2013 in connection with the proposed EU regulation to introduce a Statute for a European Foundation. These meetings also included representatives of the European Foundation Centre. Finally, I can also advise the Deputy that my Department had a further meeting with Philanthropy Ireland in March 2012 to assist in the preparation of a Victims of Crime Consultative Forum on Philanthropy and fund-raising.
