528. Deputy Michael Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if his Department will consider reimbursing dairy farmers for slaughter costs for removing BVD, bovine viral diarrhea, calves; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25881/14]
Amharc ar fhreagraI recently announced refocused support measures for BVD. These measures provide for a €120 payment in respect of disposals in a timely manner of persistently infected (PI) calves in suckler herds. I am also providing for the payment of €75 towards the disposal of second and subsequent PI female calves born in dairy herds that are disposed of in a timely manner. Both measures are in respect of 2014 born calves and apply for one year only. In view of the scarce resources at my disposal, it was not possible to extend support beyond the measures outlined above.
