344. Deputy Simon Harris asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if any consideration has been given to locating polling stations in public buildings and council buildings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28496/14]
Amharc ar fhreagraSection 93 of the Electoral Act 1992 provides for the use of schools and public premises for taking the poll and the counting of votes at Dáil elections. Section 94 of the Act provides that a returning officer shall provide a sufficient number of polling stations for the accommodation of Dáil electors. The returning officer may use, free of charge, any school or premises owned or occupied by a local authority for these purposes. Similar provisions apply under the electoral Acts in relation to other elections and referendums.
