499. Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government the reason the role and the institute of clerk of works who come from a trades background are being segregated by current legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29140/14]
Amharc ar fhreagraI fully appreciate the important contribution which members of the Institute of Clerk of Works and Building Inspectors in Ireland (ICWBII) make to the construction industry. The executive of the ICWBII has been in contact with my Department on a number of occasions in relation to the development and implementation of the new building control regulations. I am not aware of the specific concerns outlined having been raised in the context of such engagement but my Department will be happy to engage further with the executive of the ICWBII should the need arise.
