39. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Taoiseach the number of private secretaries employed by his Department since March 2011 to date in 2014 with a breakdown of the numbers appointed directly for him and those appointed directly to the Ministers of State attached to his Department during that period; and if he will provide a breakdown of the manner in which each appointment was made, that it was through open competition or an internal appointment. As is customary Private Secretary positions are advertised within my Department or in some cases in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
