Ceisteanna (218)

Brian Stanley

Ceist:

218. Deputy Brian Stanley asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if Irish Water will be responsible for addressing problems caused within the sewage system on domestic premises in view of the fact that local authorities will only do so if the problem was located on a house rented from the local authority. Since 1 January 2014 Irish Water is responsible for the public water and wastewater systems and infrastructure. Individual householders have always been, and continue to be, responsible for the water distribution system and sewage drains within the boundary of their own property. In the case of local authority houses, works previously carried out, including repairs to sewage systems, were carried out by the local authority in their capacity as landlord.
