I received a letter requesting a meeting with me regarding the proposed UN peacekeepers monument, from the President of the Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) earlier this month. There are already many monuments around the country to honour members of the Defence Forces that have given their lives in service to the State and overseas including a National Memorial to members of the Defence Forces
who died in the service of the State in Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
I have asked my officials to write to the President of IUNVA to request more details on the proposal. I will give further consideration to the proposal when this information is received.
I would like to take this opportunity to convey my best wishes to the Irish United Nations Veterans Association for the good work they do on behalf of their members.
