484. Deputy Paul Murphy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if he will extend the validity period of passport cards from five years to ten years; the reason the validity period is five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5616/15]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Passport Card is designed on the basis of a credit card size and so will fit conveniently into a wallet. It will be of a polycarbonate construction also very similar to a credit card. The industry standard to ensure durability and security of the card recommends that the validity should be set to no more than 5 years.
