248. Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl asked the Minister for Finance if the Revenue Commissioners treat payments to Reserve Defence Force Army Reserve/Naval Service Reserve volunteers the same as payments to employees, meaning that income tax and PRSI and USC contributions must be withheld; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the Department of Defence make the appropriate deductions of tax, USC and PRSI under the PAYE system on the making of payments to members of the Army and Naval Service Reserve.
