317. Deputy Gerry Adams asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number and monetary value of farm thefts in County Louth in 2014 and 2015 to date; the steps that have been taken to address this issue; and her views on setting up a special unit within An Garda Síochána to investigate cattle rustling and farm thefts. An Garda Síochána has a range of strategies in place in relation to theft from farms, including in relation to livestock and machinery and metal theft. I have sought a specific report from the Garda authorities in relation to the Deputy's queries concerning the Co Louth area and I will contact him directly when this report is to hand.
