Ceisteanna (398)

Clare Daly

Ceist:

398. Deputy Clare Daly asked the Minister for Defence to explain the way in which the Defence Forces are aware when aircraft such as the United States of America's Military Hercules EC130H, which made an emergency landing in Shannon on 28 February 2015, are in Irish airspace, in view of the fact that they normally operate in secret. Under the Air Navigation (Foreign Military Aircraft) Order 1952, all foreign military aircraft require the permission of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade to overfly or land in the State. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade notifies my Department in respect of such requests.
