Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Justice and Equality her plans to introduce changes to parental leave rules to allow parental leave be taken for all children up to 18 years of age; her views that parents who have not taken parental leave for children up to 13 years of age should be allowed to take it, while those children are teenagers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe current statutory provision with regard to parental leave provides for a parent to take such leave in respect to a child up to the age of 8 years old. If the child was adopted between the age of 6 and 8, leave in respect to that child may be taken up to 2 years after the adoption order. In the case of a child with a disability or a long term illness, leave may be taken up to 16 years of age.
I have no plans currently to amend the age limits for the taking of parental leave.
