578. Deputy Charlie McConalogue asked the Minister for Education and Skills the funding options available for schools who wish to build an astro park on their school grounds; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12963/15]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department's over-riding objective is to ensure that every child has access to a physical school place and that our school system is in a position to cope with increasing numbers. This will continue to be the main focus for investment by my Department in the coming years therefore it is not possible to provide funding for the provision of astroturf pitches at schools. While my Department is not in a position to prioritise funding for astroturf pitches, it is open to schools to explore any funding options that may be available under the Sports Capital Programme administered by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
