Deputy Pat Breen asked the Minister for Health further to Parliamentary Question No 479 of 21 January 2015, if he will provide an update on the application lodged with the Health Service Executive for the inclusion of the drug Fampyra for multiple sclerosis under the community drugs scheme; when a decision will issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As was noted in the reply to the question of the 20 January 2015, a revised application was received by the HSE on the 25 July 2014 for the inclusion of Fampridine (Fampyra) on the community drugs schemes. The HSE has since been engaging with the company seeking an improved commercial offering and these engagements have been completed. It is not possible to say when a decision on the funding of this medication will be made as the HSE is considering the outcome of those commercial engagements as well as the outcome of discussions which the HSE has had with clinical experts regarding this drug.
