Amharc ar fhreagraThe Low Pay Commission was officially launched on 26 February 2015. This independent body is now beginning its work on advising the Government on the appropriate rate of the National Minimum Wage. It is expected to submit its first report to Government by the middle of July and the Commission will examine the rate of the minimum wage on an annual basis from now on. The establishment of this new body was a key commitment in the Statement of Priorities agreed by the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste last year. Any decisions by Government in relation to that rate that may impact on pay in the public service will be implemented accordingly. Pending the outcome of the considerations of the Commission, no speculative rates of increase in the minimum wage have been costed.
