Ceist:

1175. Deputy Tony McLoughlin asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade with specific relation to item 6, the place of origin on the identification page of standard Irish passports, if a person who was born outside of the State, but who is now a citizen of Ireland, can instead of only having just their country of origin stated in this area, also have their home town or village included in this identification area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There is a field on the hard data page of the Irish passport to record the place of birth of the holder. The county of birth is recorded for citizens born on the island of Ireland and the country of birth is inserted for citizens born abroad. International Civil Aviation Organisation regulations do not provide for the insertion of details of a “home town or village” on passports.
