336. Deputy Robert Troy asked the Minister for Justice and Equality her plans to bring forward legislation to deal with persons who damage or remove lifebuoys, defibrillators or other safety devices from public places; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [40578/15]
Amharc ar fhreagraThere is already legislation in place to deal with criminal damage to property generally. Under the Criminal Damage Act 1991 it is an offence to damage, threaten to damage or possess anything to damage property. Penalties for such offences include, on conviction on indictment, a fine of up to €22,220 or a term of imprisonment of up to 10 years or both. Accordingly, I have no current plans to bring forward new legislation in this area.
