Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he has received an application from Mayo County Council for funding for a road (details supplied) in the county which constitutes a part of the Wild Atlantic Way; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is the statutory responsibility of each local authority, in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the Roads Act 1993. Works on those roads are funded from local authorities' own resources supplemented by State road grants. Under the main grant categories Restoration Maintenance, Restoration Improvement and Discretionary, grants are allocated on the basis of the length of regional and local roads in each local authority area. The selection and prioritisation of works to be funded under these programmes is a matter for the local authority.
