Ceisteanna (252)

Joan Collins

Ceist:

252. Deputy Joan Collins asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if he is aware that a tenant (details supplied) of Sligo County Council on the recommendation of the occupational therapy service in the Health Service Executive applied for the provision of a walk-in shower in January 2014 and that the council made a submission for funding for the works to his Department in February 2015 and a further submission in February 2016; if it normally takes over 12 months to process and approve funding for such works; when he will make a decision on this submission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department provides funding to local authorities for various social housing supports, including for adaptations and extensions to the social housing stock to meet needs of local authority tenants with a disability or to address serious overcrowding. Funding provided by my Department meets 90% of the cost of such works, with each local authority providing the remaining 10%.

The administration of the grants is a matter for individual local authorities and my Department is not involved with the assessment or prioritisation of individual applications. I understand that the application in question is on Sligo County Council’s priority list for the required works and it remains a matter for the Council to address.
